    LIME

    Application Guide

    As a general rule of thumb in Nova Scotia, you would typically apply about 30 pounds (14kg) per 1000 square feet every year to maintain pH at present levels. However, this will not always be enough. If you are applying limestone to an already lush and green lawn, you can probably cut the above application rate in half. On the other hand if your lawn has a very low pH, you might need to double the typical application to correct the problem. (mosher limestone)

    Pelletized Lime                                                   Powdered Lime

    Pelletized lime has become an increasingly popular product as it provides 30 percent better coverage than powdered lime, it reacts in the soil more quickly, and it is easier to spread (less dust and more consistent coverage).

    Mosher's agricultural limestone will not burn and therefore can be applied at any time. The best spreaders for applying Mosher limestone are the drop style spreaders. These spreaders minimize dusting and apply an even coat. When applying, it is best to make two applications with the second perpendicular to the first. This ensures an even coat with no missed areas on your lawn.   for this or more information vist http://www.mosherlimestone.com

    FERTILIZERS

    Ever wonder what the numbers found on the fertilizer bags   stand for?

    Nutrient values (N-P-K)are   shown as total percentage of weight as packaged. Organic nutrients   tend to have alot lower npk values than chemical nutrients. The amount of NPK required depends on the application or the results you are trying to achive

    What does N-P-K stand for?

    N = Nitrogen
    Nitrogen is the first major element responsible for the vegetative growth of plants above ground. With a good supply, plants grow sturdily and mature rapidly, with rich, dark green foliage.

    P = Phosphorus
    The second major element in plant nutrition, phosphorus is essential for healthy growth, strong roots, fruit and flower development, and greater resistance to disease.

    K = Potassium (Potash)   The third major plant nutrient, potassium oxide is essential for the development of a strong root system. It helps plants to resist diseases, protects them from the cold and drought.

    CORN GLUTEN

    Corn gluten meal, the protein fraction in corn, is an herbicide that inhibits root formation in a wide variety of grasses and broadleaf weeds during germination. , because of its high nitrogen content can be applied to turf grass as a fertilizer and top dressing. Although large application rates are needed, it is an effective preemergent herbicide that suppresses growth of annual weeds such as crabgrass. The recommended rate and timing of application is 20 lbs./1,000 sq. ft. before germination of annual weeds in the spring, followed by a second, similar application in late summer.
